PEI Fishing Licence 2026: Price, WCF, Kids and Seniors

PEI's 2026 angling fee structure looks simple at first, but the checkout path has two ideas to keep separate: the angling licence line and the Wildlife Conservation Fund amount.

The current provincial information page lists the annual angling licence at $10 plus HST and says angling licences include Wildlife Conservation Fund fees. For most adults aged 19 to 59, the useful planning number is the $10 licence line plus the $20 WCF amount.

PEI also says courtesy angling licences are issued free of charge to anglers aged 16 to 18 and 60+. Seniors aged 65+ have a lower WCF amount of $13. Children under 16 do not need an angling licence and are exempt from the WCF fee.

If you are planning a short family trip, PEI says the family five-day licence is available from May 1, 2026 and costs $5. The same page also says active Canadian Armed Forces members and veterans fish without charge.

This is the part that can make PEI searches confusing. A query like “PEI fishing license price” usually needs the age path, not only the $10 licence line.

PEI has already posted its 2026 Free Family Fishing Weekend dates: May 15 to 18, 2026.

The same PEI notice says that during the weekend you can fish without an angling licence and you can also fish in selected private ponds and fish farms. If you are planning a family trip around those dates, this is one of the easier entry points on the island.

PEI's angling information centre covers freshwater fishing, seasonal notices, maps, and the angling summary. The same page sends anglers to the federal DFO recreational fishery rules for saltwater fish and shellfish questions.

That split is worth remembering when you plan a mixed trip. Use the PEI angling summary for inland waters, and use the federal vs provincial permit path if your day is built around coastal or tidal fishing questions.

PEI says the 2026 angling season begins on April 15, 2026 in most locations. The current 2026 Angling Summary also highlights a few location-specific notes that are easy to miss on a quick read.

For 2026, PEI says Hyde Pond in Cornwall is open from September 16 to November 30. The same summary says a section of the West River in Bonshaw is closed to dip netting, and the fish counting fence area is closed to all angling.

If you are heading to a named river or pond instead of a general access point, read the current summary before you leave. PEI puts a lot of the practical detail there rather than on the purchase screen.
