Alberta Fishing Licence Cost 2026: WiN, Visitor Prices and Seasons

Alberta fishing licence cost guide for 2026, including resident and visitor prices, WiN activation, AlbertaRELM buying path, Family Fishing Weekends, exemptions, and season checks.

Updated May 22, 2026

Alberta Cost Starts With the Licence and WiN

Start with two numbers: the sportfishing licence and the WiN setup. Alberta lists the annual sportfishing licence at $30 for residents, $62 for Canadian non-residents, and $87 for non-Canadians before GST. Most adult anglers also need a current Wildlife Identification Number, called a WiN.

Visitors can choose short-term products: $43 for a 7-day Canadian non-resident licence, $57 for a 7-day non-Canadian licence, $27 for a 1-day Canadian non-resident licence, and $29 for a 1-day non-Canadian licence before GST.

Cost is only the first step. Alberta rules change by watershed and waterbody, so use the Alberta season dates guide before treating a licence as permission to fish a specific water.

Choose The Alberta Cost Question First

Alberta price questions often mix licence cost, WiN setup, visitor products, free weekends, and park-water questions. Start with this split before you buy.

Start with the Alberta province page for broad licence setup. This cost guide is better for annual cost, 7-day cost, 1-day cost, visitor class, WiN impact, exemption effect, Family Fishing Weekend timing, waterbody timing, park-water permits, and buying timing.

Start With The Alberta Cost Split: Annual, 7-day, or 1-day licence price first; then check the WiN, visitor class, season date, or park-water rule before checkout.

Who Does Not Need the Standard Licence

Anglers under 16 do not need an Alberta sportfishing licence. Alberta residents aged 65 or older also do not need the standard sportfishing licence.

Resident Canadian Armed Forces veterans aged 16 to 64 can use a no-charge resident sportfishing licence path.

Exemptions do not remove waterbody rules. A closed water stays closed, and bait, harvest, and special harvest rules still apply.

WiN and AlbertaRELM Buying Path

A WiN is required before buying Alberta fishing products. If you already bought Alberta hunting or fishing products before, check your existing profile instead of creating a duplicate account.

Most anglers buy through AlbertaRELM / MyWild Alberta or a licence issuer. Sort out the WiN first, then choose annual, 7-day, or 1-day based on the trip length.

If the account setup is the problem, use the Alberta WiN guide. If the waterbody timing is the problem, use the season guide.

Season Dates and Family Fishing Weekends

Alberta uses an April 1 to March 31 sportfishing regulation year, but that does not mean every water opens on April 1. Open seasons change by watershed and waterbody.

For 2026, Alberta Family Fishing Weekends are February 14 to 16 and July 11 to 12. During those dates, the sportfishing licence requirement is waived on open waters, but other rules still apply.

Use the family weekend as a licence-cost break only after checking whether the water is open and whether the species, bait, and harvest rules fit the trip.

When the Cheap Answer Is the Wrong Answer

A one-day visitor licence can be cheaper than an annual licence, but it is tied to a short window. If your dates might move because of weather, access, or travel, wait until the trip is firm before buying.

For walleye trips, check whether a Special Harvest Licence applies. For 2026, Alberta moved Walleye Special Harvest Licences to direct purchase while quotas remain.

For a trip inside a national park, switch to Parks Canada permit rules. The Alberta sportfishing licence does not replace the park permit path.
